Hi, and welcome back to my blog! This month's Photographer Spotlight showcases fellow IGer Beth E. (seasalt.and.evergreens ) I think I first spotted her work on IG through a featured images feed, though now I can't recall which photo exactly it was, or if it which particular IG group, or if I just stumbled upon her work while browsing suggested images in Search. Hailing originally from Southern California, Beth made her way north to the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where she has resided the last 18 years.

I will simply say, much of what Beth captures is the days spent with her family, living life and savoring every minute of it. While it certainly doesn't hurt that Beth happens to live in one of the most picturesque parts of the United States, the Pacific Northwest, it is clear in her photographs that she not only loves where she lives, but also loves her family very much.

The gorgeous landscapes her subjects find themselves in were what initially caught my eye, being a landscape photographer and an expatriate Left Coaster ( I do miss the wild coastal beauty of Central and Northern California) . While Beth states in her IG bio that she is "just here to learn about photography", it seems to me she ought to be teaching others about the craft. Beth tells us that she shoots most of her images with a Panasonic Gx7 camera with a 4/3 sensor, and various lenses she acquired along the way. She estimates that while she has used her phone for a few images, her photos have been primarily made with her Gx7.

Beth's Instagram feed brings us the stunning beauty of the Pacific Northwest in a way that is second only to actually being there. Her images make it quite clear why her IG feed moniker is seasalt.and.evergreens, You can almost smell and feel the place and time in each photo.

Each image tells a story, even the ones that she might not caption as much as some of the others. Beth's use of unusual POVs, depth of field, light and shadow are marvelous. The other half of her statement, "while adventuring with my kids", tells all the story one might need to hear for any one of her photos.

Some have a portrait quality about them, while others possess a sort of journalistic feel softened by her use of light, color, and viewpoint. And I swear, in some, a touch of real, honest-to-goodness magic.

Beth is a master of capturing mood and telling a story with her images. Her willing subjects are as at ease hamming it up as they are just going about being themselves while Mom captures their candid moments.

When I asked Beth if she shoots professionally, just for the love of it, or some of both, she said, "I just shoot for the love of capturing my kids. Maybe if I ever get a better camera I would do stock {photography}. But currently the file sizes my camera outputs aren’t large enough for stock"

Beth's images are not only a photography class for the rest of us, they are valuable intimate family photos for the album. Any family would be fortunate to have such beautifully recorded memories collected in the family album!

I asked Beth how long she has been shooting, to which she replied, "I’ve been casually shooting forever, but didn’t start to take it seriously until the last couple of years." Her love of the medium, and the time & heart she has put in learning her craft is evident in her current Instagram collection.

Beth tells us that Instagram is currently the only display of her work. I would highly encourage anyone to take a look at Beth's Instagram feed, seasalt.and.evergreens ! If you find you would like to contact Beth regarding prints or commissioned work, you may DM her through Instagram, or via the email link in her IG bio. Thanks, Beth, for sharing your beautiful photography, and glimpses of your life and your beautiful corner of the world, with us!
